Ferrari will never make a better mid-engine V8 then the 458 Speciale, and I’m keen to argue that no other mid-engine Ferrari including the loved F40 is a better more impressive driving experience, aside from maybe the Legend that is the 288 GTO, maybe.
We all know the legend that is the Ferrari F40 and has a magnificent piece of automotive wonder, but it was kinda shown the door with Porsches 930’s and even some of the Supercar killers that were emerging out of Japan in the late 1980’s and early 1990’s. However, the 458 Speciale remained king and though Porsche and Lamborghini offered up some tasty treats the Naturally Aspirated V8 gladly stepped toe to toe with these more single-focused vehicles. Look don’t get me wrong I’m not saying that is and always will be the fastest, but consider everything that is involved in making a Legend, it’s not always about Power, Speed and Price Tag, in fact, Two things tend to help lead the way. One is Race wins, how successful was the track version of the vehicle?
Well in the international endurance series a 458 took home:
24hrs of Spa-Francorchamps Winner x6
12hrs of Sepang Winner x2 (2013 & 2014)
24hrs of Dubai Winner x2 (2014 & 2015)
12hrs of Bathurst x1 (2014)
In the world’s top tier GT3 Blancpain Series:
2011 Pro Team & Driver Crown
2012 Pro-Team & Driver Crown
2014 Pro Team & Driver Crown
2015 Pro Team & Driver Crown
Not to mention the countless class wins around the globe, the platform was and is an absolute beast. Two: even in the collector World, these 458 Speciale are already starting to skyrocket as many are in agreement with my statements above, but it comes down to driving feel and being what is likely to be the very last Naturally Aspirated V8 it was always bound for glory.
So If you happen to win the lottery within 3-6 months of this post going live, be sure to add a nice unique specification 458 Speciale to your list of wants and needs, and be sure to thank me in the years that follow.
